Huawei Achieves Patent of Autonomous Driving Vehicle Behavior Planning Technology

On Tuesday, Chinese data services firm Tianyancha revealed that Huawei has obtained patent authorization for behavior planning methods and a behavior planning device for self-driving vehicles. The application date of the patent was July 2019.

The patent abstract shows that the application relates to artificial intelligence, and that the technical scheme enables the self-driving vehicles to safely and quickly pass through intersections.

Wang Jun, president of Huawei’s vehicle business unit, stressed that Huawei does not build cars itself, but chooses to provide automakers with the basic elements of an automobile digital platform. The authorization of this patent also signals Huawei’s deepening engagement with the automobile industry, and driving developments within it from a unique angle.

According to official documents, Huawei secured patents in the field of electric vehicles (EV) in June, such as charging control devices and thermal management systems.

In April, ARCFOX – a brand operated by BAIC New Energy – and Huawei jointly released a brand-new intelligent EV, making a big splash in the market. On June 7th, Huawei announced that it had reached a patent license agreement with a Volkswagen Group supplier. The agreement includes Huawei’s 4G Standard Basic Patent (SEP) license, covering Volkswagen with a wireless connection function. This has been Huawei’s largest licensing deal in the automotive industry to date.
