China’s Geely to License SEA Architecture for Izera EV Brand of ElectroMobility Poland

Geely, one of China’s leading private automotive technology groups, announced on November 17 that it has signed an agreement to license its pure electric Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) to ElectroMobility Poland (EMP), an electric vehicle manufacturer backed by the Polish government. Geely will also become a technology partner to EMP’s first series of vehicles to be launched under the Izera brand.

Geely’s SEA architecture will support EMP, Poland’s first domestic vehicle brand in generations, to meet the country’s ambitious transition to electric vehicles. EMP plans to develop multiple electric models for its Izera brand using Geely’s SEA architecture, with the first model being confirmed as a compact SUV. EMP has announced plans for two other models – a C-segment station wagon and a hatchback, which will be announced in due course.

The agreement represents a significant expansion of the SEA architecture, launched by Geely in September 2020. EMP represents the first direct external adopter of SEA, while brands such as Zeekr and Smart have already begun deliveries of SEA-based vehicles to consumers.

Daniel Li, CEO of Geely, said, “Geely is proud to sign this agreement to license its industry-leading SEA architecture to EMP. Poland plays an important role in the European automotive industry, and this licensing agreement will help speed up the transition to electric vehicles and the creation of a wider EV economy.”

Developed by Geely through its global R&D centers in Europe and China, SEA is a purpose-built pure electric vehicle architecture that is highly scalable, from A-Segment small vehicles to E-segment and larger commercial vehicles. The platform provides a comprehensive software framework, reducing software development for partners, and a wheelbase that can be expanded from 1800mm to 3300mm, based on requirements.

Geely is currently accelerating electrification and intelligent transformation, actively deploying new energy, intelligent driving, and auto-grade chips. Its latest sales data released in early November show that in October this year, its brands sold a total of about 152,300 new cars, a year-on-year increase of 36% and a month-on-month increase of 17%. From January to October this year, the cumulative sales of Geely were approximately 1,033,400 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 10%. In the field of export business, the company exported about 18,100 vehicles in October, an increase of 80% year-on-year. From January to October, it exported about 160,000 new vehicles, an increase of 89% year-on-year.

It is worth mentioning that Geely’s new energy vehicles performed very well in October. Among them, the sales volume of pure electric vehicles (including replacement products) in the month was about 26,800, a year-on-year increase of 346%. In the first 10 months of this year, the sales volume of pure electric vehicles under Geely exceeded 193,000, a year-on-year increase of 4.1 times.
